Hidden Gems: Southeast Idaho's Music Community
What does the future look like for the music scene in 2023? There are many who think that A.I. is going to eventually take over. And that could be an option with how current trends are flowing, though that could still be a little way out. There is also the rise of independent artists who have become more self over time. Social media also has its share of musical growth.
Whatever it is there is a lot of talk about how and what the music scene will become. But one thing we here at BlinkAlternative have noticed in the past 3yrs is the growing set of artists and bands in the works. One question we have for Southeast Idaho is where do we fit in all this? We have seen an incline of bands and musical artists growing since 2020. Not to mention there is a steady influx of people moving to our state. Southeast Idaho in particular. And with the brand-new event center in Idaho Falls and the brand-new land development that is being added to Pocatello and Chubbuck.
With everything changing in our area, there seems to be a terrific opportunity to start a music career. Whether that be a band or by yourself. So far there have been some great surprises. I have seen three great punk bands, a new wave disco band, and some great singer/songwriters. The potential really makes me wonder what is instore for this new year.
One thing I have observed over the last year is the great opportunities that help these musicians. In Old Town Pocatello you have a few places to practice at an open mic night. One venue in particular, that is free of charge, is located at Station Square. There is quite the buildup of people who really support one another and give you the opportunity to highlight your ability. It gives artists the support they need to practice and have fun. Now one thing I think they could really work on these nights would be to put in a few days of practice and even rehearse before showing up. It can be a tad jumbled and a little uncoordinated, especially when you just add people to your set. If you are there for fun it is great karaoke. If this is your passion and you want to go somewhere, then I would highly advise you to rehearse as much as possible.
Overall, I believe good things are coming our way. I cannot wait to see more local artists rising through the ranks. I also hope to see more independent band like I saw on Tuesday night to come through as well, which I am sure I will see in time. We would like to hear your take on this, so please feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you think is in store for 2023.
