Revviving Memories

The Rising Pocatello Car Scene

It is an interesting time in Pocatello. With the pandemic seemingly behind us, we are finally seeing a new uptick in community growth. In that growth, it seems that the Pocatello car scene is rising back up. Already there have been this year a 2-3 car meets, 3 car shows, and a truck meet, also there is a local community bike club that is meeting up for weekend rides every week.

Of course, there are a few hiccups at the beginning of the season. Some ups and downs, but we here at BlinkAlternative Media have some high hopes for the scene and we like the potential they will provide going forward. We can’t wait to see how this community will grow and what comes of it.

We had a chance to interview a couple of people that are heads of a couple of chapters and one in particular that we first reached out to is the car club “Built N Silence.” Headed by Keanan Search, and Bodee Chaves. The club wants to focus on a car meet with the feel of car shows. They invite anyone willing to keep things safe and respectful while also having fun.

One thing I believe that will set this club out from the rest is the self-reliance they are striving for. Already designing their very own merch in-house to help sustain their community is a brilliant idea and something I haven’t heard of anyone doing, as of yet. They have started with stickers that represent their club that they can print themselves, and they plan to build up as an in-town clothing/merch designer. Overall, these guys are professional, respectful, and very intuitive. Again, a club to really keep an eye on. We are looking forward to more interviews with Keanan and Bodee in the near future.

Another group we are looking forward to further talking to and interviewing more in-depth is the local motorcycle group “208 Street Riderz.” Just like “Built N Silence” they are probably some of the nicest people out there. Just looking to have fun but also doing so with the utmost respect. They are just looking to find great areas to ride together on the weekend and build a nice comradery with one another. We are really looking forward to having a much more in-depth conversation about who they are and what they are all about.

One thing I have to say that I am concerned with though, is the local truck scene. Though it was great to see everyone having fun, I realized that the leadership of the group was a little lacking. Though there are a few guys who announce when a meet is going to happen, from what I gathered, there isn’t really a main leadership of the group. This, from what I observed, adds to chaotic problems. With the last truck meet many kids from Idaho Falls and some from in town ended up doing burnouts and tossing trash in the Ashely Furniture parking lot and there were a few close calls with them burning up the lane. The problem with this is it gives a bad outlook on other car clubs with business owners in the town. So, though it was an enjoyable/awkward night, everyone agrees that with a few things ironed out the truck scene can really thrive, and I believe (and many people I talked to in the auto community agree) that starts with a firmer leadership within the truck community.

I’ll end with this. With IDT coming up this summer I am really excited about the culture in our town and what can come from it. Helping people build their careers, and giving many people, especially the youth in our town, something to do. I truly believe this can really help put Pocatello and Southeast Idaho on the map.
